The holdings of all our libraries contain items which can only be used on site. These items are marked with a red line above or below the call number.

In all of our libraries, journals can only be used on site.

The special collection holdings, particularly fragile items published before 1900, valuable items that are difficult to replace, old newspapers, and single-issue items can be used only on site in the special reading room. Please note that when requesting old newspapers from the storage library, only five to ten volumes per request can be sent together due to the varying thicknesses of the volumes and limited delivery capacity.

In response to the current exceptional circumstances, new rules apply from June 8, 2020, for users wishing to view items that are only available in the special reading room. Please be aware that you must order such items 24 hours in advanceby email ( or by phone (information desk: +41 (0)41 349 75 00).
