In light of good scientific practice sponsors and research insitutitons require researchers to manage their research data in a responsible way. In a more digitalized world this increasingly includes research data being made publicly available in order to provide for transparency in research and reuse of the data. Publishing research data may promote scientific visibilty and reputation of researchers.
Research data can - if not prevented due to ethical and/or legal reasons - be published on interdisciplinary, institutional or subject specific respositories, and special data journals. In order to allow for reuse of research data a persistant identifier (e.g. DOI) must be assigned and the data must be licenced appropriately (e.g. using a Creative Commons licence).
